Cool Stuff

I love Neurolinguistics and more accurately stuff by Milton Erickson ,Alfred Korzybski and Virginia Satir

Have a look at some at some of their thoughts…

People respond to their experience, not to reality itself.

We do not know what reality is. Our senses, beliefs, and past experience give us a map of the world from which to operate. A map can never be exactly accurate; otherwise it would be the same as the ground it covers. We do not know the territory, so for us, the map is the territory. Some maps are better than others for finding your way around. We navigate life like a ship through a dangerous area of sea; as long as the map shows the main hazards, we will be fine. When maps are faulty and do not show the dangers, then we are in danger of running aground.

Having a choice is better than not having a choice.

Always try to have a map for yourself that gives you the widest and richest number of choices. Act always to increase choice. The more choices you have, the freer you are and the more influence you have.

People make the best choice they can at the time.

A person always makes the best choice they can, given their map of the world. The choice may be self-defeating, bizarre or evil, but for them, it seems the best way forward. Give them a better choice in their map of the world and they will take it. Even better give them a superior map with more choices in it.

People work perfectly.

No one is wrong or broken. They are carrying out their strategies perfectly, but the strategies may be poorly designed and ineffective. Find out how you and others do what they do so their strategy can be changed to something more useful and desirable.

All actions have a purpose.

Our actions are not random; we are always trying to achieve something, although we may not be aware of what that is.

Every behaviour has a positive intention.

All our actions have at least one purpose – to achieve something that we value and benefits us. NLP separates the intention or purpose behind an action from the action itself. A person is not their behaviour. When a person has a better choice of behaviour that also achieves their positive intention, they will take it.

The meaning of the communication is not simply what you intend, but also the response you get.

This response may be different to the one you wanted. There are no failures in communication, only responses and feedback. If you are not getting the result you want, change what you are doing. Take responsibility for the communication.

We process all information through our senses.

Developing your sense so they become more acute gives you better information and helps you think more clearly.

Modeling successful performance leads to excellence.

If one person can do something it is possible to model it and teach it to others. In this way everyone can learn to get better results in their own way, you do not become a clone of the model – you learn from them.

If you want to understand – Act

The learning is in the doing.

I am a proponent of observation. I believe that by paying attention to Life we can learn many of her secrets.

I find myself looking at people, riding all over the place trying to link events to other events and I have a good time doing it.

I love learning things about nature of life that I don’t yet know and I love seeing things unfold that I do have some experience with already. To see new things holds my attention. I like it. Still there are many things that I have trouble noticing because I am so familiar with them that I do not see them for what they are and what they may possibly mean.

Human beings are a part of nature. I have found out that by observing them I can find out many ways to be like them and do what they do, and if I just observe and not participate, many ways that does not lead to understanding.

When observing Human Beings that are gathered in small or large groups one must watch their behavior closely to determine if they are in fact people or automatons and spectators

If they are contributing actively to society in a beneficial way then the obviousness of their behavior states that they are People. If they are not then perhaps they are not people at all but life’s spectators.

It is not always easy to determine this as obvious fact as their attire may be nothing more than an attempt to identify themselves in the eyes of others as people. Many sports enthusiasts do this and it can be seen at large gatherings of say, football fans. In the stands of the football field where they gather and sit, one may observe many of the spectators wearing clothing that is identical even to the brand name and logo of the clothing which is being worn by the players of the game they are watching.

When observing Human behavior on a beach for example it is easy to overlook their movements but for the careful observer the patterns of their will find comfort that there are those who consider the companionship of the self as the doorway to the adventure of discovery. Serious people seldom try to draw attention to themselves, as a rule they are clandestine and they mostly walk by themselves or with one or sometimes two other serious friends that they have known for many years.

Here are just a few obvious facts that are often overlooked by most and if noticed will totally change the way you participate in the sport of Life:

Successful people are different than normal people. If you try to be successful using normal people methods then you will continue to have the success that you are having now.

Most people overlook this.

Successful People that stay in the business, catch their quota of life regularly. They do not hang out where normal people do. They pinpoint their effort in the current where other successful people are holding. If the life becomes mediocre they leave and try to locate another group of Successful people. They do not depend on the successful people coming to them.

Successful people feed by facing into the current of life and intercept their food as it is carried to them. The energy level of the environment that a successful people hang out will tell you its energy level in feeding. Slow pace relaxed people. Fast pace fast people.

Staying in a toxic relationship is not intelligent although it has become the normal methodology with most automatons

These are simple observations that are easily overlooked. See if you can notice them yourself and find your own meanings for them. Overlook them and nothing will change. The path of the obvious is perhaps the most difficult path of all to find and unravel, but it is well worth the effort and the results are measurable in satisfaction and not in monetary terms.
